unimpressed and stoic
she used her strut
to straighten sidewalks,
punished by each step
they nervously align.
her tongue lay heavy in her mouth
but steps betray her vision
behind those puddles
of caramel glass
self-sufficient eyes,
south of destinations.
sitting, he asks himself
why he dare bother
and before he said hello
he'd said goodbye
to embodied indifference
in the span of one stride
nothing more to offer
had she, but her stare
forward, and her pride
that floated on his two words.
